BASIC INFORMATION
![]()
Name: Joshua (Astray) Bright
Canon: Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
Age: 16
Bio: Once upon a time a six-year-old boy barely survived the rape and massacre of his entire village and went catatonic from the shock. Then a creepy professor "fixed" him by piecing his broken heart back together into a tiny murder machine to do dirty work for the Society of Ouroboros.
Then when he was eleven, he failed a mission, was going to be killed for it, and was instead saved by his intended target, who then took him home, adopted him, and started teaching him how to be a person again.
It's a work in progress.
Joshua comes across as being fairly calm and composed; he's soft-spoken, (usually) polite, and always methodical and attentive to detail. Underneath that surface layer of functionality, though, he's a hot mess. He's spent half his life dissociating from the trauma of losing everything, has mostly functioned by thinking of himself as a puppet instead of a person, and now that he's trying to reintegrate with normal people, it's been really messy. He hates himself, he thinks he doesn't deserve to be around people, he casually refers to himself as being broken, tainted, and something that brings disaster and misery on people.
Which he isn't, really; he's just a teenager who never learned how to handle emotions when he was a kid, and who's now scared shitless of acknowledging them and actually feeling anything about what's happened to him.
SYMBIOTE INFORMATION
[RHO] - SHADOW STEALTH
When in the shadows, Joshua will be able to become undetectable - at full power, both visually and on scanners. He doesn't need to be in full darkness; the shadow of a tree on a sunny day, for instance, might not be terribly dark, but as long as he can fit under the shadow, it's possible to hide there. A lone flagpole in an otherwise bright area, on the other hand, isn't going to give him enough to work with.
Level I: When in cover of shadows and keeping still, he becomes visually undetectable, but can still be spotted on scanning equipment that looks for other signs of life, i.e. body heat. If he moves, he loses the visual cloaking as well. He can maintain this for about fifteen minutes total each day (and may be able to wring a little more time out of it if that's spread out rather than all in one go), but each use is immediately followed by a period of extreme photosensitivity, lasting as long as he used it for.

BROOD PERMISSIONS
Everything below in nest permissions applies, but his brood will be able to put more specifics on it - the cracks where he's been "repaired" are more obvious, the details of the incident when he was young are more clear (his village slaughtered, his sister died protecting him, he shot someone trying to protect her). He's constantly thinking of Estelle, who is a very bright spot in the middle of everything else, and he clearly sees her as The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Him, full stop.
Also, that tattoo on his left arm? Not actually a tattoo, although exactly what it is and what it means might not be particularly clear, aside from the fact that it is somehow bad news and seems to be prominent in every self-hating thought of Joshua's that slips through.
NEST PERMISSIONS
There's a distinct sense of something off about Joshua's mind. Think of it as a plate that somebody smashed into pieces, then glued back together - but while it was painstakingly done and seems very neat and functional, there are still a few sharp edges that might cut you if you touch them, and the pieces were rearranged quite a bit by whoever was putting them back together (it's still a plate, but now a different looking one). Aside from this, it's fairly easy to pick up that he's killed a lot of people, that something really awful has happened when he was a child, and that he has some serious self-loathing (when he actually manages to think of himself as enough of a person to be worth bothering to hate). There's one person, a girl about his age, constantly on his mind, although details about her may be a bit hazy.
Note: this is just what's easy to get. To put it metaphorically, if Joshua is a house, this is what other hosts can get by taking a look as they pass by on the street. Anyone who actually makes the effort to walk up close and peek in the windows will have an easy time getting more, because I tend to think that his mental defenses are poor as a result of how Weissmann rebuilt his mind. So if your character is the type to actually try to look closer, anything I drop in tag narration is probably fair game unless I state otherwise, and feel free to hit me up OOCly if you want detail on something.
MENTAL LINK
A wolf prowling in the shadows. The scent of blood and steel. One ray of sunlight in the middle of darkness. A broken puppet. The sound of a harmonica.
PERMISSIONS
Physical Affection: Go for it.
Physical Violence: He's very quick and good at evading, but I'm open. Ping me so we can be on the same page!
Romance/Relationships: Unlikely; he's intensely fixated on Estelle.
Thread-jacking: Go for it.
Back-tagging: I thrive on it!
Fourth-walling: I'd prefer not to.
Offensive Subjects/Triggers: Joshua's past is chock full of child abuse/exploitation and indiscriminate slaughter. As for what triggers me, there's nothing in particular you need to avoid.
Anything Else? play trails guys it's gr8 and you can make the best salt jokes in fandom
